Guest Post {Knock You Naked Bars}

Today we have Julie from Julie's Eats and Treats!  Be sure to check her out and follow along with FacebookTwitter, and Pinterest!  Thanks for covering for me Julie, take it away!

Hi everyone!  I'm so glad to be guest posting over here at Wine & Glue for Lisa!  When she was looking for some fill-in posts I jumped on the chance.  I just adore her blog and obviously you do too!
For those of you that don't know me, I'm Julie and I blog over at Julie's Eats & Treats. I'm a working mom with an adorable little babe we like to call "Miss K". We were blessed with her this past summer. My hubby is my best friend and ultimate "taste tester". If he doesn't approve you won't see the recipe period. And yes, when I mess something up he is the first to be laughing and asking, "Can we take a picture of this and post it". I usually roll my eyes and politely inform him that's not ok, but I'm glad he is always there to support me and tell me, well there's always pizza! If you are looking for simple, but delicious recipes then head on over and check my blog out!  And now, for my Knock You Naked Bars!
“I’m going to marry these!”

Meatless Monday Guest Post! {Cream of Roasted Broccoli Soup}

It's the week of Christmas!  Which means two things (well, it means a whole lot of things, but only two that I'm going to trouble you with):  1.  I'm going to be spending a lot more time with my family and a lot less time with my computer.  And 2.  You get to meet some fantastic bloggers that I have the privilege of knowing!  When I asked some of my blogging buddies to fill in for me, a bunch jumped up and offered to help.  Thanks ladies!

Up first is the wonderful Sandra from Vegan Mother Hubbard.  She is a mom to two adorable twin girls, and comes up with the most amazing and well rounded vegan meals for her family!  Check her out on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest!  Thanks Sandra!!

It's Friday! Cheers!! {Missing My Mom}

It's Friday . . . and this is normally where I say "Cheers!!" and then make some tongue in cheek comment about the treacherous week I've had.

First, let me say thank you for indulging me in two posts today.  It felt really important for me to participate in #BloggersforSandyHook . . . as I mentioned in my post last week, my blog feels awfully silly and superficial in the face of such senseless tragedy.  It feels good to use it to send some positive words into the universe for those families shaken by this loss.

And just as my post earlier today seemed important, so does this one.

I am saying cheers this week, and I'm raising a glass of my mom's favorite wine, Port, and toasting to my most amazing mother.  It is appropriate to be posting this Friday evening, as it was a similar snowy Friday evening five years ago tonight that I was nursing my baby, born just hours earlier, when my brother called me to let me know that my mom had passed away.

(Brace yourself, people.  This is going to be a long post.)

Sending off a Winter Wonderland {#BloggersforSandyHook}

If you haven't visited my Etsy shop yet, please do . . . TODAY!  I would love to make a special piece for you or someone else in your life, and if you order it today, as part of #BloggersforSandyHook, I will donate 100% of the profit to the Newtown Youth & Family Services.

It's been a while since I've struggled so much with writing a post.  While it has felt very important to me to be part of Cookies & Crafts for Sandy Hook, and I just love the other bloggers who are doing this, I worried that anything I posted would seem insanely trivial.

Gavin has a snow day today.  Which would be fine, except for a few minor details.  First, it was a special P day at school . . . pajamas and popcorn, so he had a meltdown when I told him there was no school.  Second, I have tons of things I was hoping to get done while he was at school today.  Things that little eyes are not allowed to see (like wrapping presents for Daddy, presents that he will want to blab about!!).  Third, at this very moment, he is singing his Christmas concert at the top of his lungs in my ear as I try to type this and his sister tries to sleep.  Fourth, THERE IS NO SNOW!  None.  Seriously.  There's a little rain, it's a little slushy, but there really is no snow.  Come on people!  This is Wisconsin!!  I know we haven't really had much snow, but we are tough!!

I Want A Hippopotamus & Bonbons {DIY Ornaments}

Please remember to join me on Friday for #BloggersforSandyHook and visit my Etsy shop as 100% of the profit goes to benefit the Newtown community.

What is your favorite Christmas song?  There are so many good ones to choose from!  Do you go for the soulful spiritual ones, the old timey rock ones, or are you a Chipmunk fan?

One of the favorites in our house?  You guessed it!  (Was my title picture kind of a hint . . . ?)

I thought it would be fun to turn it into an ornament!  Come see how I did it over at Bonbon Break!!

Meatless Mondays #8 {Oven Dogs}

Please remember to join me on Friday for #BloggersforSandyHook and visit my Etsy shop as 100% of the profit goes to benefit the Newtown community.

I have a confession to make.

It will probably get  me banned from The Party Planning Secret Society.  Crap!  That is for sure going to get me banned.

I hate planning the menus for parties.  Party favors?  Done.  Decorations?  I'm all over it!  Party themed treats?  Do you even have to ask??

But the menu . . . ?  Ugh.  It just . . . overwhelms me.  Do the people really have to eat?  What about all the treats I'm making?  Can't they just eat sugar?  I think what overwhelms me is the different types of eaters who come to my parties.  I have vegans, vegetarians, those who won't eat beef or pork, those who really only want beef or pork, gluten free, dairy free, and I wouldn't eat a vegetable if you paid me.  And I love them all.  Dearly.  But what do I serve them???  And how do I match it to the theme???

And then for Gavin's Brewers Baseball Party, all the stars aligned, and I found Oven Dogs!!

Cookies and Crafts for Sandy Hook {#BloggersforSandyHook}

I think when something tragic happens, something unfathomable, something that shakes us to our very core, we feel like we must do something.

And while I know in my heart the only thing that is I can really do for those grieving parents, siblings, grandparents and friends in Connecticut is say a prayer that they may find some small bit of peace in their heart, some other bloggers and I wanted to do something that felt a little more concrete.

A Prayer

It feels, like when you have a platform, however small that platform may be, that something must be said at a time like this.

I've been thinking all afternoon about what I could write about the tragedy that has happened in Connecticut.  Because I really can't just go on posting sweet treats, holiday traditions, and how to make a wreath on a budget as if this very real incident did not happen.  As if that stuff really matters in the face of this.

I think that as a parent of a young child, my first instinct . . . honestly?  Is to vomit.  And then shudder with the senselessness of it all.

When Columbine happened, I was a high school student, and naturally put myself in the classmates who survived that act of terror.  Now though, I am putting myself in the shoes of the parents.  It is much more chilling place to imagine yourself.

Without a doubt, I am not expert on child loss, or even loss in general.

But I couldn't help but think about Elliot today.  He was not ripped from me in the same painful way that those parents in Connecticut experienced today, but I know what it feels like to have arms that ache with an emptiness that will never go away.

Life is fleeting.  We can't wrap our children in bubble wrap or keep them trapped at home.  We can't hold them back in the hopes that we won't lose them.

Anything can happen at any moment.

Calming words, I know.

I'm not going to say that parenting with a full heart and living in the moment with your children is what will ultimately bring you peace (though, I kind of think it will).  What I am going to say, is that teaching our children to be wise rather than fearful, cautious rather than terrified, and love their fellow man and greet them with respect rather than suspicion and contempt is one small thing we can do.

I'm saying a prayer for the parents in Connecticut tonight.  All the parents.  Over the next few months, as the days get darker, longer, and harder, I pray that you find small moments of peace and you hold on to them with all your might.  I pray that you hold each other up and offer each other any support you can muster.  I pray that you are able to search your hearts and find your inner core of strength.

It's Friday! Cheers!! {How To Both Terrorize Your Child and Start A Holiday Tradition}

It's Friday!  Cheers!

This week I am not going to drag you down with stories of snot, vomit, and tears.  And not because they weren't a central feature once again in my week (that's three weeks in a row if you haven't been counting), but because I like you too much to do that to you.

No, this week I'm going to share with you a heartwarming tale of terror.

The story of Star the Elf.

Highlights from the Year Ornament

Looking back on 2012, it's hard to conceptualize of all the things that happened.  I mean, when you have really little kids, they change SO MUCH in a year's time.

Skylander Portal Cake & Sheep Cupcakes

You can't really have a Skylander Party without a portal of power cake.  Well, I guess you could.  Of course you could.  But that is only assuming that you aren't a puppet and your every move isn't controlled by an adorable five year old who is totally obsessed with Skylanders.

Let's, for a moment, assume you are that puppet.  You are going to want to learn how to make fondant. And fast.

It's Friday! Cheers! {Cookie Making Day!!!!}

It's Friday!  Cheers!

Whew.  I can't believe this week is over.  After last week, I thought it would be awhile before I was SO happy to see another Friday come.  I was wrong.  Gavin gave Quinn the stomach flu, and she wrapped up his Skylander Party by puking all over it.  Happy Birthday, buddy.  Then just a few days later, with green goop POURING out of her eyes, I brought her to the pediatrician, thinking she had pink eye.  I was wrong.  Double ear infection.  The nurse was also kind enough to point out FOUR teeth just breaking through the surface.  And not those sort of painful pointy ones, but molars.  Big giant molars.  Poor kid.  No wonder she has been filling our days and nights with shrieks of horror.

Skylander Party Candy Table

So.  I blame Nathan.

I blame my beloved and wonderful husband, Nathan, for the fact that my darling dear little boy who is just on the precipice of turing five most enjoys pretending to shoot people with fire balls.
