I am so excited! Today is such a fun special day!! Today is the baby shower for my good good friend, Cathy, at Lemon Tree Dwelling! What makes this even more special, is that Cathy isn’t just a blogging friend, she’s a real life friend! Actually, she and I have been good good friends since long before either of us even dreamed of blogging.

One of the things that Cathy and I have really bonded over in our friendship is motherhood. Cathy is such an amazing mom. Shortly after I had Gavin, I sunk my claws into Cathy and made her be my friend, partially because she is so cool, and partially because she is such a great mom, and I desperately needed good mom friends. Friends who understood midnight feedings, days when naps didn’t happen, and how to deal with toddlers throwing 95% of their dinner on the floor instead of eating it.

And she got it. She got it all.

I remember one day calling her. I was out driving around with like a five month old Gavin. And she and I were friends, but not like super good friends. Closer to acquaintances at the time. And it was like 3 in the afternoon, hours before Nathan would be home, and I just couldn’t go back home with the kid. I just couldn’t do it. I called Cathy and pretty much invited myself over. Within about a half hour, I was sipping a margarita and we were talking about our kids. And I was instantly relaxed. Cathy didn’t blink an eye about me inviting myself over or the fact that I was kind of at the end of my rope. She just had me come in. It was awesome.

It was one of the first in a long long long line of things Cathy did for me that have supported me as a mom, a wife, and a friend. She’s just the greatest. And so many of the things that make her a great friend . . . her empathetic spirit, her ability to listen without trying to fix it all, her lack of judgement (even when I was totally judging myself), her kindness . . . make her an amazing mom.

So I really really mean it when I say that this little girl, this lucky little girl who is coming into a loving family as sister number four, is so very blessed.

Congratulations Cathy {and Jorden, and Ellia, and Greta, and Nora}! I can’t wait to meet her!

Now let’s talk about this monkey bread. When I thought about making something for Cathy’s shower, I really wanted it to be something for brunch, since so much of our friendship has taken place over brunch. Cathy puts on a meeeeean brunch. And she makes the most amazing monkey bread! Have you checked out her Eggnog Monkey Bread? Seriously amazing. I could eat the whole thing. Or her Blueberry Monkey Bread, or her Pineapple Upside Down Monkey Bread, or her Strawberry Cheesecake Monkey Bread??

So I pretty much had to make her a monkey bread. And I combined it with her delicious homemade orange curd, and came up with this beauty. It is soooooo delicious. Quinn and I may have almost eaten the whole thing by ourselves. It’s addictive. And topped with just the perfect amount of  orange flavored glaze. And her orange curd recipe is so good, that I won’t judge you at all if you add a little more to the top of your monkey bread :)

Orange Dream Monkey Bread

(tap # to scale)

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 packages of regular Pillsbury Grands biscuits
  • 4 oz cream cheese
  • 1 cup orange curd
  • For Frosting
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 TBSPs milk I used 2%
  • 1/2 tsp orange extract

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and spray a bunt pan with cooking spray.
  • Unroll both packages of the biscuits and cut each biscuit into four pieces. In a small bowl throughly mix the cinnamon and sugar. Drop each biscuit piece into the mixture making sure it is covered, and then transfer the piece to a bigger bowl.
  • In a small saucepan, combine the cream cheese and orange curd over medium low heat. Break up the cream cheese, and then whisk together until mostly smooth.
  • Pour the mixture over the biscuit pieces and stir gently to fully combine (I poured half in, stirred, poured the rest, and stirred again).  Pour the ingredients into the prepared bundt pan.
  • Bake for 40 minutes. Remove from the oven and tent with aluminum foil. Bake for an additional 7 minutes. Let stand for 10, loosen gently from the pan with a butter knife and then invert on a serving plate.
  • Mix together the ingredients for the frosting and drizzle over the monkey bread.

This sounds absolutely dreamy! I was wondering if you think it would be okay to use the same homemade roll dough that I use for regular monkey bread or do you think not using the Grands Biscuits will be a recipe for disaster? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

No, I totally think you could make it with your traditional monkey bread dough. It’s pretty much a spin on the traditional monkey bread :)
