So if this image looks vaguely familiar to you, it should.  It was what could have been if it hadn’t been for a reflector board gone wild.  So incredibly painful.  If you are wondering, I quickly snagged the second martini and tried to position it to crop out all the spilled first martini to still get the shot . . . and the exact. same. thing. happened.

Then I decided it wasn’t my day and went back to bed.  #notreally  #ihavekids

Anyway, that Instagram picture also got posted on my personal FB feed, and all of my blogging friends left comments of, “Oh no!” and “Lick it up!” and “Quick photograph the second one!”

But the very first comment was from my friend, Aubrey.  She was so sweet.  She left a comment saying that despite the spill, it was a really good shot, and I should just go ahead and use it.  What Aubrey didn’t realize was that I was creating this martini as a birthday drink for her!!

Today is Aubrey’s birthday and I’ve gotten together with a bunch of other bloggers to throw her a surprise birthday party!  (Be sure to scroll to the very end of this post to catch all the goodies we made for Aubrey’s birthday celebration!)

I have the great good fortune of working for Aubrey as a contributor on Real Housemoms!  Not only is she an awesome boss, but she is humble, kind, and generous.  She is all about promoting and helping other bloggers, which makes her such an amazing member of this community that I love so much.

Happy Birthday, Aubrey!  I wish that we were sipping some of these Samoa Martinis together to celebrate!

Like so many of the literal and figurative spills in my life, the spill of this martini was actually a blessing in disguise.  I decided that the original was good . . . but maybe not quite the flavor that I wanted.  I originally used three different vodkas to create the samoa flavor.  I mean, it was good, but it was STRONG.  And if I’m being honest, when it comes to martinis, I just want something yummy.  I don’t want something that’s going to make me pass out after two sips.  Okay, so the redo, is amazing!  I swapped out the caramel vodka for just caramel sauce.  It made it not as strong, and it made it a little sweeter, which was like a double win.

Remember, drink responsibly, watch out for flying reflector boards, and enjoy!

Samoa Martini

Yield: 1 martini

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz creme de cocoa
  • 1 1/2 oz coconut vodka
  • 2 TBSPs caramel sauce
  • 1 TBSP chocolate sauce
  • 1/2 cup cream (see note)
  • toasted coconut, agave nectar, and whip cream (optional)

Instructions

  1. Very carefully, rim a martini glass with agave nectar and then dip in toasted coconut, set aside.
  2. Add the first five ingredients to a martini shaker full of ice. Shake to combine, and strain into the martini glass.
  3. Top with whip cream and more toasted coconut.

Notes

For the cream in this recipe, just use whatever cream you have on hand. I use fat free half and half in my coffee in the morning, so that's what I tossed in, and it was perfect. You could also swap out some of the cream for a scoop of ice cream and make it more of a boozy float, yum!
