This Thin Mint Frosting is your favorite Girl Scout Cookie in frosting form! You’re going to want a spoon. This Thin Mint Frosting is your favorite Girl Scout Cookie in frosting form! You're going to want a spoon.

For whatever reason, moms want fat babies. Is it pride? Like, “Hey look! Not only am I keeping her alive, I’m keeping her FAT.” Moms want to chew on fat thighs, talk about baby kankles, and brag about what percentile their baby is in.

Well . . . that is when they are in a high percentile.

That is not the case with my baby.

She is a solid six. That is she is solidly in the sixth percentile. Sometimes while trying to feed her solids that she is literally throwing back at me I will yell, “COME ON SIX!”

My other babies were giants. Born over eight pounds, they stayed above the 50th percentile in both weight and height until they were over a year old. But Piper . . . she’s just a tiny little peanut.

It makes me mad.

When people ask me how old she is, and I tell them nine months, they look at me with stunned shock. They say, “But she’s so tiny!!” And then they tell me about their niece/granddaughter/cousin/neighbor/kid they picked up off the street and how they are the exact same age but so much bigger!

And then I scream at them in the middle of the grocery store, “I SWEAR I’M FEEDING HER, SO LEAVE ME ALONE YOU JERK!”

Okay, I don’t really.

It’s all kind of silly you know. I mean, the growth chart is based on some decedents of vikings. (Note:  Do not come to Wine & Glue for historical facts.)  And my little girl is not a decendent of vikings. She is a descendent of a small but very spunky Italian woman who I’m pretty sure never made it past 5 feet or 100 pounds. So maybe next time in the grocery store I should just yell, “SHE’S A TINY ITALIAN! BACK OFF!” I guess I am a little spunky too.

Maybe Piper just needs some of this Thin Mint Frosting. That will plump her out, right? (I’m kidding. I feel the need to clarify that I’m kidding.)

This frosting is kind of insane. I mean, it totally tastes like thin mints. I am a big fan of just eating my frosting with a spoon, though I suppose this would be great on a chocolate cupcake or sandwiched between two thin mints. YUMMY.

Thin Mint Frosting

(tap # to scale)

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter at room temperature
  • 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips melted
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/8 to 1/4 tsp mint extract see note
  • 3 TBSPs milk
  • 8 thin mints crushed

Instructions

  • Beat the butter until soft and smooth.
  • Beat in the melted chocolate.
  • Slowly add the powdered sugar, scraping down the sides as necessary.
  • Mix in 1/8 tsp mint extract. Then mix in the milk, beating until smooth. Taste the frosting to see if you need more mint.
  • Finally, beat in the crushed cookies.
  • Store in an air tight container for up to three days.

Notes

A little goes a long way when it comes to mint extract. Start with 1/8 tsp and taste it, adding more if you like it more minty.

My kids are off the charts in height, but weight? Not so much. Buying pants for them is super fun. Can you say BELT? Which was also fun, until they learned how to use one. Wish you would have posted this frosting 3 years ago. Would have come in handy. LOVE the pictures!

    • Lisa Longley says

Hahaha! You’re awesome Amy. Did you like how I had to for sure explain that I was kidding about feeding my baby frosting? ;)

  2. Niki says

First, I must make this icing! Second, my first girl was tiny. Grew consistently, but always hovered between 15% and 20%. I hated the ‘how old is she question’ – and then the comments. Quite frankly, I loved she was so tiny and I didn’t have to carry around a giant baby in the infant carrier :) she’s 7 1/2 now and jumped from the 25th to 32nd percentile recently, woohoo!!!

    • Lisa Longley says

Lol Niki! Yeah, there are some FOR SURE benefits of my little lady being so little! For one, all the clothes that I’m sad about never using again are getting used way longer than I thought they would be. :) Thank goodness her doctor isn’t worried at all and is super supportive.

A thin mint cookie topped with thin mint frosting is like my dream come true!

    • Lisa Longley says

Right Julianne?? Me thinks we need a Girl Scout Cookie Week!

    Frosting looks Amazing. Thank you

Lisa; here are a few comebacks when people make some rude comments when it comes to our children.

She’s just the right size for her/him.

just say; well, she/hes huge compared to the 2 lbs he/she started at. You should have seen how tiny she/he was then.

Well, you know with the obesity epidemic in this country – her doctor wanted to start her dieting early. (That REALLY boggles peoples minds… they’re like REALLY?! – No – STUPID!)

Or don’t respond to dumb comments and just walk away

She/he may be tiny but they’re a happy and healthy baby

    • Lisa Longley says

Colleen, this was the first thing I read this morning, and it totally made my day. We need to be best friends, you are awesome!!

  5. Mir says

I am so with you! My two first babies were HUGE, and my third was in the 3rd percentile. She’s tiny. Still. And she’s almost 3. I keep waiting for her to fatten up…
Love the idea of crushing thin mints into frosting! So amazing. I am very excited about the possibility of putting it on, well, everything!

    • Lisa Longley says

Oh Mir, that makes me feel so much better!! It probably concerns me the most because my other two were BIG babies!

  6. Julie is HostessAtHeart says

I think I will just call this dip. I can’t believe how amazing this stuff sounds.

    • Lisa Longley says

      Hahahaha Julie!

We make extra small babies in my family, that’s just the way it is, and to be honest, I was thankful for it at the time of delivery :) This frosting is genius, I adore thin mints, and I think I’ll have to try to make it with my homemade version!

    • Lisa Longley says

I love all the sweet love I’m getting for small babies on this post! And oh man, I wish that her small size had translated to an easy delivery but it was the hardest one by far! :O

  8. Pam says

This post was so fun to read! I’m now craving something really really sweet now though! My kids were born tall and are still tall as young adults, and my tiny peanut niece is now 27 years old and still a peanut (and adorable.) At 5 feet tall, she is a strong little thing, though. Stopped by from the SITS Sharefest.

  9. Niki says

Just circling back…I did make it this weekend to top chocolate cupcakes for my daughter’s 4th birthday party. So good, I won’t lie, I ate it with a spoon. Thankfully I hid a box of Thin Mints from my husband to make it, they have now been released to the general population in the pantry.
