Chocolate Strawberry Cake ‘N Shake

Hey all!!  I’m off this week visiting my childhood bestie who just gave birth to her first baby!  While I’m off getting tons of baby snuggles and taking care of my dear sweet friend, some of my dear sweet blogging friends are taking over here at Wine & Glue!  I’m leaving you in some amazing hands people!

First up is the wonderful and talented Holly from Happy Food Happy Life.  She is seriously ridiculously nice, and if you don’t follow her blog yet, you are missing out!  Holly is one of my many blogging buddies that I wish I lived near.  It’s not unusual for me to get caught up in FB chatting with Holly and then realize I have approximately three point two seconds to get my butt in the car and go pick up my kid from school.

Chocolate Strawberry Cake 'n Shake // Happy Food Healthy Life

Hey Wine and Glue fans! I’m Holly, and I blog over at Happy Food Healthy Life. I couldn’t be happier to be here in Lisa’s amazingly beautiful corner of the internet. She has some of the most beautiful and delicious recipes here that I just feel so honored to be tiptoe-ing in this space. But hey, since she’s letting me stay for a minutes, I’m going to take full advantage of it and bring you something that I truly think is epic. No, really. Take a seat, grab your beverage of choice, and let me tell you about this journey to heaven in a glass.

One day I made chocolate cupcakes with chocolate frosting. I ate some of them. They were super rich and delicious on their own. But my pants started protesting and told me I needed to take a break from eating so many cupcakes unless I was going to workout as well. So the cupcakes sat there for a couple days. Sad, lonely, and forgotten. I couldn’t just let them go to waste. But not only could I not afford to buy a new wardrobe if I ate more cupcakes, the whole family was pretty much just sick of all the chocolate cupcake-y-ness.

And that’s when I happened to remember that pint of strawberry ice cream I had left in my freezer, and the wheels started turning. Strawberry + Chocolate. We all know that this is a wonderful combo. {I proved it with these cupcakes} I just had to figure out how I was going to make these two ingredient elements meld together.

Luckily, there’s this awesome invention called a blender, and all I needed to do was throw these two ingredients in and push the on button. Seriously. No, I’m not kidding. This is for real.

It’s an easy way to get rid of the leftover cupcakes or cake. Your kids will absolutely love you. No, it’s no healthier than cake and ice cream. It’s not going to make your pants protest any less. But it’s going to switch it up a bit for those few un-eaten cupcakes. How much of a super-mommy would you be if your kids came home from school to this special treat once in awhile?! I do not normally condone super sugary after-school treats like this one, unless you’re looking for an insane sugar-rush while your kiddo is attempting to focus on homework. But some days require a special treat… rainy days, sad days, and well… days that end in Y, right?

So there you have it. Our cupcakes are gone. My waistband will finally get a break. And my kiddo gets a wonderfully rich and deliciously easy treat. Do you have leftover cupcakes or a couple slices of cake? Grab some ice cream or frozen yogurt and throw it in a blender.

Chocolate Strawberry Cake 'n Shake // Happy Food Healthy Life

RECIPE:

Chocolate Strawberry Cake ‘n Shake
Serves 2
Ingredients

2 chocolate cupcakes with chocolate frosting

1 pint of strawberry ice cream or frozen yogurt

6 ice cubes

Whipped cream, for garnish

Chocolate Sprinkles, for garnish

2 strawberries, for garnish

Chocolate syrup, for garnish

Instructions

Place chocolate cupcakes, ice cream, and ice cubes in a blender. Blend at medium speed until fully combined.
Pour into a cold mug or glass and top with whipped cream, chocolate sprinkles, chocolate syrup, and strawberries.
