Garlic Aioli is such a simple and delicious sauce recipe. Use it as a topping for your hamburgers or as a dipping sauce for fries. It’s even amazing on vegetables.

One of my kiddos is so obsessed with condiments that we bought her little condiment cups. She’ll fill them with salsa, sour cream, ketchup, ranch dressing, pickled jalapeños, and any other sauce she can think of to go with whatever she is eating.

She comes by this love of condiments honestly, as I am also totally obsessed. Condiments are almost as important to me as the meal itself. This garlic aioli is no exception. It is made with really simple ingredients and it comes together quickly, but it is such a fun way to elevate a meal.

Garlic Aioli Ingredients

Just a few simple ingredients are needed to whip up your own garlic aioli sauce. Scroll to the recipe card at the bottom of the page for the full recipe and all measurements.

  • Light mayonnaise: Making up the base of the sauce, read more about how this ingredient saves time below.
  • Garlic: Finely minced garlic adds the best flavor that is the star of this sauce.
  • Lemon juice: Fresh lemon juice is best and adds a bright citrus flavor.
  • Salt and pepper: Enhances the flavor of the other ingredients.

How to Make Garlic Aioli

Here is how quick and easy this delicious sauce comes together. For the full recipe including all measurements, see the recipe card at the bottom of the post.

  1. Combine all ingredients. Whisk all of the ingredients together until smooth. Taste, and add more salt and pepper as needed.
  2. Refrigerate before serving. Cover the dip and refrigerate for 30 minutes before serving for the flavors to fully combine. Taste, and add more salt and pepper as needed.

Using Mayonnaise as an Emulsifier

In traditional aioli recipes, the olive oil and eggs are emulsified rather than using mayonnaise. An emulsifier is used to hold two things that don’t usually go together, like oil and vinegar, and is commonly used in salad dressings to prevent them from separating. Using mayonnaise in this aioli recipe is a way to make it quick and more accessible for busy families which is why we use it here.

Roasted Garlic Aioli

For a roasted garlic aioli sauce, cut off the very top of the garlic bulb and cover it with foil. Roast it in the oven until tender and golden. Then remove the soft and roasted cloves, blending them, before adding them to the sauce. This adds a caramelized flavor to the aioli.

Storing

Store your lemon garlic aioli in an airtight container like a jar in the refrigerator for up to three days. Give it a good stir before serving. Serve cold. As with all recipes, use your best discretion when it comes to leftovers.

Homemade garlic aioli can be enjoyed as simply as dipping raw vegetables, crackers, or fries, or used to top your favorite sandwich or wrap. Here are a few ideas:

Garlic Aioli

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup light mayonnaise (read about using mayonnaise to make aioli here)
  • 5 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt (if using table salt, start with less)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

Instructions

  • Whisk all of the ingredients together until smooth.
    3/4 cup light mayonnaise, 5 garlic cloves, 1 1/2 tablespoon lemon juice, 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt, 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving. Enjoy as a dipping sauce for French Fries, as a burger topping, or enjoy with my delicious Crab Cakes.
