Okay, so you know all the treats that I post on Wine & Glue? Yeah, I don’t eat all of them. I mean, I try them all, and if I don’t like them, they don’t make the cut. They only get posted if it’s something that I would make again . . . . like for company.
But the bulk of the recipe . . . I mean if I ate it all . . . . yeah . . . so the bulk of the recipe goes with my husband to his work. He shares it with his employees, and I get to hear from him how it went over. I mean, if it takes two days for the pie plate to come home, it’s not an awesome sign. But lots of times Nathan will come home and say, “They devoured it.”
Note the “they.”
Yeah, my husband pretty much never eats the treats that I make. I don’t even bother asking him what he thinks, because I just assume that he never eats it. I try to not take it personally, but you know . . . I’m Italian. It’s like it’s written in my DNA to make food for the people I love. I’m supposed to do it.
Well, the other day Nathan let something slip! He said something along the lines of, “I mean it’s all good.” As in ALL my treats are good. As in he has been trying all of them and enjoying them and just hasn’t been telling me!!! When my jaw dropped open and my eyes became as wide as the cookies he swears he hasn’t been eating he said, “I mean . . . . I hear they are all good.”
I wonder if there are special therapists for bloggers and the husbands who deny their good baking.
Now this I watched Nathan eat. I mean . . . I kind of forced it on him.
He will freely and openly admit that my Mint Oreo Bark is his favorite treat. So this was the birthday cake version, and I wanted his opinion. His official judgement of it? “I mean it’s good. But not as good as the Mint Oreo Bark.” Sigh. But! The whole container of it was snarfed up when he brought it to work.
Birthday Cake Bark
- 1/2 of a 15.5 oz package of golden Birthday Cake Oreos about 20 cookies
- 24 oz bag of white morsels
- 1/4 cup cake mix
- 1/2 cup sprinkles
- Break the Oreos into a bowl.
- Melt the chocolate according to the directions on the bag.
- Quickly whisk in the cake mix. Then stir in the Oreos.
- Pour the mixture into a wax paper lined pan. Very quickly pour the sprinkles onto the wet chocolate, and gently push down.
- Put the pan into the freezer for two hours.
- Break it up and enjoy!
